Foreign nationals may apply for contract service in Ukraine’s Defence Forces. Start with a screening conversation and verify every legal requirement before travelling or signing documents.
Basic eligibility
Official Ministry of Defence guidance requires legal grounds for being in Ukraine, a valid passport or stateless-person document, a clean criminal record, medical fitness, and readiness to comply with Ukrainian law.

Experience and training
Previous military service, education and professional skills are considered during selection. Candidates without prior service receive training before assignment to a military occupational specialty.
Read the contract carefully
The official procedure includes checks, a written contract and a probation period. Ask for an authorized translation and confirm the term, role, unit and termination rules before signing.
